New Acid Towers for Morocco Fertilizer Complex
July 4, 2011
NORAM has completed a sulphuric acid plant upgrade project for OCP (Office Cherifien des Phosphates) at the Jorf phosphate fertilizer complex in Morocco.
NORAM engineers were responsible for the complete mechanical and process design for 3 new brick-lined acid towers, and a new plant stack, as well as for the engineering associated with the acid piping and gas ducting. Tower demolition and tower fabrication and erection were carried out by a local contractor under NORAM’s supervision.
The 3,000 TPD acid plant was successfully started up and production has exceeded by 20% that obtainable prior to the plant upgrade. The improvement became possible through use of NORAM’s proprietary high-performance HP™ tower packing, that has not only reduced acid emissions from the plant stack, but also achieved the capacity increase without the need to upgrade the 5 MW acid plant blower.
