High Honours for Dr Alfred Guenkel
August 9, 2021
The University of British Columbia has named Dr Alfred Guenkel to its list of recipients of its Faculty of Applied Science Dean’s Medal of Distinction.
The Dean’s Medal was created in 2015 to celebrate UBC’s 100th anniversary, and distinguishes recipients as individuals that have:
- Demonstrated exemplary work in one of Applied Science’s member disciplines
- Made longstanding or significant contributions to advance the Faculty’s mission, vision and mandate
- Become leaders who have made exceptional impacts in their fields.
Dr Guenkel, an early partner, and co-owner of the NORAM Group of companies, has worked actively across NORAM’s business divisions, and notably advanced the fields of process engineering in sulphuric acid, wastewater, and nitration. In this latter industry he pioneered the Adiabatic Nitration Process, a process that made NORAM and Canada the leading provider of nitrobenzene technology, and is the basis of over half of the world’s present mononitrobenzene (MNB) production.
The award will be bestowed at a ceremony on November 23, 2021. Further information can be found at: https://apsc.ubc.ca/profile/alfred-guenkel
