Fuel-flexible SOFC Technology
December 8, 2009
NORAM has been awarded a contract by National Research Council Canada’s Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation (IFCI) to undertake an engineering study of IFCI’s advanced high-temperature fuel cell technology.
Direct Carbon Fuel Cells (DCFC), a variation of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, are contenders for large stationary power generators, potentially running off a variety of relatively unrefined fuels, as diverse as coal, vacuum residuals, or biomass, but with compelling advantages in:
- carbon sequestration, and
- efficiency, in CHP combined heat and power applications.
The development work will include a system and cost analysis for scaling up IFCI’s proprietary fuel-flexible DCFC platform.
